New Year, new SMART goals

As we approach the end of the year, it’s a good time to start thinking about your goals for 2023. Health and wellness goals can be especially difficult to achieve, so setting attainable goals is crucial. S.M.A.R.T is a mnemonic that can help you create reasonable goals.

Specific- the area of improvement that your goal targets should be clear

Measurable- you should be able to measure progress toward your goal

Attainable- make sure it is actually possible to achieve your goal

Relevant- choose a goal that is meaningful and benefits you

Timely- create a timeline that holds you accountable while still allowing you to be successful

Here are some examples of SMART goals related to health and wellness:

1- By February of 2023, I will get 7 hours of sleep at least four nights out of the week in order to improve my mood, be more productive at work, and prevent myself from getting sick.

(Specific- related to sleep, Measurable- 7 hours of sleep, Attainable- four nights of the week, Relevant- I’ve been very tired, moody, and stressed lately and it’s starting to affect my relationships and productivity, Timely- I hope this becomes a habit by February)

2- I will do 15 minutes on the Stair Master machine at the gym at least once a week before my Spring trip to Colorado so I can go on a hike with my family.

(Specific- a specific mode of exercise, Measurable- 15 minutes on the cardio machine, Attainable- once a week so I still have time for other forms of exercise that I enjoy, Relevant- achieving this goal will help me be able to do something fun and active with my family, Timely- before my vacation to Colorado)
