Shin, Ankle, and Foot Pain
The lower leg, ankle, and foot are very interconnected. Treatments for pain and dysfunction in this region will often target all of these areas, and even body segments higher up such as the knee, hip, and core.
Achilles Tendinopathy
The Achilles tendon attaches the calf muscle to the heel. This tendon can become inflamed and painful due to overuse, commonly seen in runners. This pain may cause changes in walking and running form. Targeted exercises, stretches, and activity modification can help address Achilles tendinopathy.Â
Ankle Sprain
Ankle sprains can be caused by excessive motion of your ankle in a variety of directions. Ankle sprains can cause pain, swelling, and bruising in the foot and lower leg. Chronic ankle sprains may lead to long term ankle instability if not properly rehabilitated.
Plantar Fasciitis
The plantar fascia is a thick band of tissues that connects the heel to the toes. This tissue can become inflamed and present as pain along the bottom of the foot and heel, often worse in the morning with the first few steps taken.
Shin Splints
Shin splints are a common complaint of runners and may be caused by muscle imbalances, breakdown in running form, or even poor foot mobility. At Dynamic Physical Therapy, a skilled physical therapist will closely assess your running form to target the direct cause of your shin splints.
